Dawnings

I am sorry, Abel Selaocoe

By Nicholas Hooper

I am sorry, Abel Selaocoe
It’s the standing, you see
I would have come
but finding the energy
to meet your energy
would be too hard
for my mending heart

I am told that one day
I will have more energy
than I have had for years
and then, if your time allows
I will come and dance to your magic

For you are a magician of sound
as you play my favourite instrument
that I never mastered
and sing in a way
that I could never imagine
and take me to a place
that I never knew before

So I am sorry Abel Selaocoe
for my absence at your concert
and I hope that my friend
who comes in my place
will find the stream that I missed
and my most loved one will dance with her
to your tunes of life

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
