Dawnings
The others
By Nicholas Hooper
The others turn their backs
I cannot see their faces, just bodies, bodies everywhere
gathered in groups but with a sense of endless humanity.
Where will we end?
Is there no end to this faceless intelligence
that has come to this world and changed it for no idea of future?
Come now, others, and look round,
look me in the face so that I might know you,
give me your hands so that we might go together and find our human destiny.
Are we all planets?
Do we all have minds that create universes?
Are the bounds of our huge human brains still not known? Never will be?
But the others still gather in their groups
and I see shoulders, backs of heads that are bowed.
They are silent, grieving and forever helpless in their mass of humanity.
Perhaps kindness will call
and bring a peace which passes all understanding
and in the end we will know our humanity and not turn and face the other way.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
