Dawnings

Still

By Nicholas Hooper

Still, the insight breathes fresh life every day
Still, the birds come to feed outside my window
Still, the rain falls dampening the earth
And I am still

Still, the silence of the night allows my dreams
Still, the comfort of my bed welcomes me back
Still, the promise of rest closes my eyes
And I am still

Still, the spirit of the world comes and goes
Still, the love in us is greater than the hate
Still, the friendships come and hear our tales
And we are still

Still, the stillness of the dawn lets me breathe
Still, the gentle sound of rain rests my thoughts
Still, the earth beneath my feet comes up to greet me
And I am still

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
