Dawnings
Wind blowing
By Nicholas Hooper
Wind blowing
where are you going
taking our leaves and branches
as you tear across the world to the north, east, south, west,
are you hoping to find your place, your home?
but you never stop, never cease,
you restless creature of change.
Leaving behind
your signs of detritus,
you race on, waiting for heat
or for cold to tell you where to go next,
steering, tearing and bringing rain and drought,
the power in your driven life is greater
than our daily lives, as you wander,
moaning and longing for change.
The world moves
from slowness to speed
with tectonic plates grinding in centuries
as our planet spins through the void at great velocity,
but we feel you, the wind who spans our earth
with your energy of change,
never ceasing currents
of energy like the
unseen water of
our lives.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
