Dawnings
The path
By Nicholas Hooper
Down into the shadows,
the tunnel made by meeting trees.
Careful with your footing on slippery rocks
and gently going lower
until the light comes
through thinning
branches and
you are
here.
The path of love is not easy.
It is strewn with brambles and mud
and to find that truly giving love is tough
as the world around us will knock it
and despise it through fear of
finding no love at all.
But it is there,
it is there all the time
if only we knew it. And we can
give it, take it and let it grow
so our hearts, like a garden
can tend the trees, flowers
and birds at the end of
the slippery slope
and see it in
the light
right
here.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
