Dawnings
Nature's veil
By Nicholas Hooper
Drawn apart, the crimson veil of cloud releases light to the river below
A purple stream of glistening water flows and bends
As above, the graceful squirrel runs and jumps from giant tree to giant tree
The sight is so huge, the sight of light coming to the world
One thinks of gods and worship and the spirit
as nature draws its gigantic veil apart and shows how light can come
and colour change on a huge canvas that reflects a world on a scale
unimaginable, ungraspable, and untameable
And the heat that we have caused will draw the moisture from the seas
and will speed the winds to mighty pressure
so the rains will fall, the trees will fall and nature will draw aside her veil
and mankind will see her face

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
