Dawnings
A sea of music
By Nicholas Hooper
A sea of music came my way
With a boat to sail it
And as long as it will come each day
I will never fail it
For the waves of notes and the winds of tunes
Drive the songs of suns and the airs of moons
And though I be lost in a cloud of dreams
I will find my way as my compass seems
To be rhythm and rhyme bringing sound into time
As I row and I sow all this music of mine
That came from above or below, I don’t know
But a sea of music comes each day
With a boat to sail it
And as long as it will come my way
I will never fail it

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
