Dawnings

a single mind

By Nicholas Hooper

just one person
to have a single mind
no other forces in contradiction
but a ready path to a story of life
finding a route that makes sense of
all that came before and everything ahead

so stop and think
of the gate in the field
of the meadow that shines
with flowers of gold and blue
the trees that explode with lives
of small creatures gathered in a city

and rest your eyes
on the nature of the moon
as it glints behind a mesh of cloud
and shines your path down to the memory
of a regular, routined life that gives a single message
of love to all that you touch in your endeavours to create
and find that single voice that leads the mind on its greatest story

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
