Dawnings

Bright sky

By Nicholas Hooper

Bright sky be with you.
Neither too warm nor too cool.
May soft breezes caress your face,
lift your hair, brush your hands
as you feel the warm sea,
its small waves rippling over your feet.

Bright air be in your lungs
as you breathe in all the goodness
that you can imagine.
May stories surround you,
stories of hope, of love,
of being cared for in the best possible way.

Bright memories be in your mind.
The call of a child, the first smile,
the play, the laughter, the joy.
May pictures fill your eyes:
of journeys done, places loved,
warm air of France and Italy.

Bright blood be in your veins.
Flowing, growing, spreading
down arms, legs, to hands, feet,
which tingle as you rest and heal.
And may your heart,
from which all this comes,
be full of love known.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
