Dawnings
Close, I felt
By Nicholas Hooper
Close, I felt your heart beat near to mine.
Close, I saw your eyes begin to shine
as I sang the song that’s in your heart
as I felt the rhythm beat of your chest.
Close, I heard a robin sing in my ear,
so close it was it seemed it had no fear
as it sang the song that was in its heart,
a song so close, so full, so clear.
Close, I felt the wind blow on my face.
Close, I felt a tree sway in that wind
as I heard the song that all being sings,
a song of love, a song of life, my heart to fill.
Close, I felt your presence near to me
Close, I heard the robin singing free
Close, I felt the wind and the swaying tree
Close, I felt the whole world close to me.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
