Dawnings
Knife edge
By Nicholas Hooper
Come in from the cold, my love
And be held by loving hands.
Your dreams have taken you
To the edge of cliffs
But here and now you are safe
You will not fall and
Kindness will be you friend.
Come in from the cold, my love
And find your fears are only
The other side of a coin held safe.
Everyone can flip that coin
And suddenly find themselves
On the dark side, seeing only
The horror of what might go wrong.
But you are here, now, held by
Good friends, helping hands
Competent and faithful.
Your building will not fall
Your ideas will not collapse
Your love will not desert you
And that knife edge between
Safety and fear is for us
When we forget to breathe.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
