Dawnings

Looking for

By Nicholas Hooper

What is it that you’re looking for?
asked the venerable sage
is it romance, is it fortune,
is that needed at your age?

You have seen the wild world wonders
you have loved the best you can
are you tired of being the old one?
have you done all that you can?

Life has given you its pleasures
life has given you its woes
you are happy in your home now
and you have no real foes

Fulfilment is my true desire
to find my real soul
of peace and creativity
that is my honest goal

It’s here right in your heart-space
said the venerable sage
it’s here for you to find now
that you are at such an age

The time for great adventures
and the time for romance too
they’ve gone and left you peace now
all future is in you.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
