Dawnings

on a certain day

By Nicholas Hooper

on a certain day
there was kindness
and although being seen as weakness by many
it would take more strength than you might think
in a world of grab and take, fight and fear,
to live in peace and be kind to others and oneself

mastering this over the years
the old man, bent and worn by the weight of life
lived a smile that argued with the fierce misunderstanding
of the grabber and the taker, the fighter and the fearful
and he had that peace which brings freedom
and a kind hand that could steer for others

so on this certain day
it’s good to remember
that kindness can bring a smile and peace
to all who would embrace it

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
