Dawnings

Only

By Nicholas Hooper

Only me taking this path
Only my spirit on its way
Only one who I seek
Only with you day by day

My wilderness is long and rich
My life is full of blessings and
My joy rests just between the earth and sky
My only question is a constant why?

You lead me in the ways of love and care
You take my hand and lift me when I fall
You know how often that I fall but you say
You will be with me constant day by day

Only me
Only you
Only breath
Only love

One day I will leave that wilderness
And find that I am not the only one
There are others in this world
And we will find that place where

All are loved
All are welcome
All are held
In your arms.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
