Pond life

By Nicholas Hooper

‘Pond life’
Who said that?
The sneering of the so-called super-intelligent
the stupid academics who can’t see beyond their noses
To them, ‘pond life’ means basic and without any brains
Whereas pond life is where everything starts – the basis of all life
And as we continue to destroy our natural infrastructure in the name of progress
we would do well to look at those with influence
who so look down on what supports our very existence
and ask some questions:
‘who is ignoring the signs and burying their heads in the sand like Dodos?’
‘who is failing to lead us and persuade the stupid human race that we must change?’
It isn’t the life in my pond
that’s for sure.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
