Dawnings
Take the plunge
By Nicholas Hooper
He thought he would go through that door,
take the plunge, take the plunge,
and be in the light of self compassion,
take the plunge, take the plunge,
but something held him back, always holds him back,
take the plunge, take the plunge.
‘What is this thing that holds me back?’ he asked,
and the answer came,
‘Fear holds you back, fear of being wrong, of not being worthy,
of not being worth anything, indeed.’
‘So am I wrong?’ he asked, ‘to think these sad things of me?’
‘You are wrong because you are worth all of this,’ the answer came.
‘You were made from the light and to the light you will return.’
So he took the plunge, and in an ecstasy of not knowing,
he found the light and it burns in him still.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
