Dawnings
The anger
By Nicholas Hooper
Hidden deep beneath the smiles
Resting behind walls of uncomfortable defence
Lies the anger
A small thing may bring it out
The tone of a voice, the toot of a horn
But out it comes
Is it so terrible that it has to be buried deep?
Is it so dangerous that it can spark off an unforgettable war?
It depends what you see
Everyone has a hook for their anger
A switch that will turn from the reasonable to the roaring
See that hook
Then learn that this anger is here to stay
Learn to live with it, understand it and listen to it
Don’t bury it again
It is one of your teachers and it remains there for a purpose
So look at it, learn from it and accept it’s there
So that it doesn’t take you by surprise

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
