Dawnings

The essence

By Nicholas Hooper

Filled with birdsong in a garden so green
finding a way to make your life mean something good
for your heart, something clear in your mind
and looking in dawn space what do you find?

A heart full of nurture a mind full of care
for the ones that you hold close even when they’re not here
a love for your garden a joy in your house
having mind for all creatures, whether bird, fly or mouse.

To gather the essence from the place where you are
To hope for your people whether close or so far
The roots of this ground have you held in embrace
Just live out this life now of beauty and grace

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
