Dawnings

Whatever next?

By Nicholas Hooper

Walking down the valley
Seeing the direction you’re going in
You come to a bend and can’t see round the corner
You know where this journey ends but have no sure idea
of what will happen on the way.
Round that bend in the path is something you hadn’t quite anticipated,
a thing that had lain in your heart, a secret desire, a piece of unfinished business.
Now it is here and you must look into your heart and stay with that feeling.
Is it hope?
Is it despair?
Are you angry at this intrusion into your peaceful life?
But look, no life is peaceful.
There are always rocks to stumble over and unseen puddles.
So do not be surprised when you turned the corner
and saw the thing that lay hidden in your heart.
Hold on?
Or let go?
Whatever next will happen in this life
when you choose to be part of the world’s creation?

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
