Dawnings
A different path
By Nicholas Hooper
One day I took a different path
And finding myself in a wood of uncertainty
I knelt down and found a flower I didn’t know
Its beauty filled my mind with images
I had never seen before and I followed them
Over a grassy hill that took my mind back
Back to the home I lost so may years ago
Back to the child I was that was so caught in imagination
Back to the place where I was cared for, mostly
Through tales of crime and art I flew
And on to birds and musical trees
And so to a story of fresh discovery
And so I came home to now.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
