Dawnings

Walk slowly

By Nicholas Hooper

Walk slowly into the dawn.
A day that’s mysterious with its unguessed happenings.
Like blessings they are, even if they seem like curses,
as unfolding motion of time breaks the darkness
and feeling your feet, you may find a direction you never thought of.
An adventure, you say, and so the right idea of life
spreads through your time and makes a living of living.
Half of you is looking with surprise at the other half
and what happens? A pause, a reflection in the pool of timelessness,
and you see what you never saw before, a chance for change
and for growth into a life that is true and steady,
as the prow of your boat makes its way down river
to the wide open sea.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
