Drifting sight

By Nicholas Hooper

as eyes wander through unnecessary things
a cloud of crinkling affects the clarity
and for a moment a clear object is seen
only to drift, drift away on a stream of stories

finding focus can be the job of a lifetime, a day,
an hour, a moment,
and in that moment let life stand still
as a pause granted by peace of mind

as the trees pass overhead when floating down river
and the sunlight glints through from time to time
so drifting sight can bring a recollection
of the whole of life seen from a tiny point
