Dawnings
resting gentle
By Nicholas Hooper
like the whole world stopped
sounds of urgency ceased
and in that moment
a dragon flew and rested in an apple tree
and finding solace in that blesséd fruit
it slumbered with a quiet roar
what brings this moment of stillness
as if the whole world died then came to light?
could it be the madness of nothing
or the fullness and connectedness of everything
like a light swinging in the apple tree
from the dragon’s tail?
thankful for a pause
a community of souls rested
and saw for the first time a different tone
and walking gently in their traditional circles
heads bowed in prayer and absence
they hoped for peace at last
and dreamt that the wars ceased
and the calm waters covered the earth
as nothing moved except a petal in the breeze
and hope was the game
truth was the aim
and love was the end
