Dawnings
the heard
By Nicholas Hooper
the cry of pain
the forsaken
that man of love
he would be an example
he would be beaten and tortured to death
and for what?
for daring to tell the message of love
that all could be free and forgiven
and in his cry of pain,
that shout that all had forsaken him,
he battered down the fences of our hearts
listen, listen to the sound of one crucified
when all is lost
when love is silenced
when hearts are ruled by law
whispering at first, then spreading
a message of hope
love was killed, silenced by nails
but lived again
and those quiet words went out
there was no internet, no television, no aeroplanes
but those words of hope
were heard all round the world
until they became the shout
of freedom to love
and you can still hear it
if you listen
